Hi Guys,

Here is the update for the 1916 World Series between the Boston Red Sox vs Brooklyn Robins.

This series went 7 tough games that was finally won by the Red Sox who at one time were down 3 games to 1.

These are the scores of the games:
Game # 1 winner: 2-0 Red Sox The winning pitcher E. Shore the loser R. Marquard.
Game # 2 winner: 4-0 Robins The winning pitcher S. Smith the loser B. Ruth.
Game # 3 winner: 4-2 Robins The winning pitcher E. Coombs the loser C. Mays.
Game # 4 winner: 3-2 Robins The winning pitcher R. Marquard the loser S. Jones.
Game # 5 winner: 3-1 Red Sox The winning pitcher in relief R. Foster the loser J. Pfeffer. Starter E. Shore threw a 2 hitter for the Red Sox before he was taken out.
Game # 6 winner: 4-0 Red Sox The winning pitcher B. Ruth the loser S. Smith. Ruth gave up only 4 hits.
Game # 7 winner: 5-2 Red Sox The winning pitcher C. Mays the loser E. Coombs.

The Red Sox were on the brink of being sent home before they came roaring back from 3 games down to over take the Robins in the series. Both teams pitching staffs were great in this series as you'll see in their final team stats listed below. The past couple of weeks the Sox have been to the edge of the cliff only to hang on and battle back to reach the top of the baseball worlds mountain. Between the GMC & this series they have shown some real heart & grit. In closing I'll have to say that I have had some really great games with these early Red Sox teams and I still have the 1912 series to play with them.

The Red Sox starting pitching again lead the way in this series. Their starters were outstanding they gave up 14 runs in the series and only 3 over the last 3 games of the series. It seems that whenever they have to turn it up a notch they turn the knob all the way up. When you consider that the last 3 games of the GMC where the 1918 team shut out the 86 Red Sox 3 games in a row. So if you combine these last 3 games of this series and you are talking giving up only 3 runs over the last 54 innings in these 2 series where they were on the edge of being sent home in games 5-7. Thats steppen it up when it counts the most. I can not recall ever having these kinds of pitching performances when a team is on the brink of being beaten in any series.

What ashame for the Robins pitchers, they pitched their hearts out only to lose a tough series to the Red Sox. As you can see by both teams batting averages this series belonged to the hurlers from both teams. The highest Era belonged to starter J. Coombs 2.87. That alone tells any baseball fan that this series was all about pitching. However both teams line-ups seem to be on life support for most of the series except for a few hitters from each team. If the Robins would have just hit a little this is a series that they could have and really should have won after being up 3 games to 1. But then again these early Red Sox teams seem to like to play dead until game 5 of the series then its like watching a steam roller run through a wheat field nothing in their way is left standing let alone breathing. This series was really a lot of fun if you like good pitching match ups and I do.

The next World Series that is up for the Monster Project is the 1912 series between the New York Giants vs Boston Red Sox.
If I were the Giants manager I think I'd have to call a team meeting and tell my players that we better end this series in 4 games. Because if it goes to games 5-7 we may be in a lot of trouble. I will up date when this series is complete. Good luck to everyone who has a project going on at this time.

Any time you can have both teams ERA's under 2 that is impressive. What a great series.

These Red Sox teams from the teens were really great.  Too bad Frazee had to sell everyone at the end of the decade.

Hi Guys,

Well you know that since I have been playing these early years I have had some really great games & series where the pitching has been outstanding. It just so happens with these Red Sox teams the pitching that they had back in the teens was really outstanding. I just inserted the 1912 world series match-up into the game system on the computer between them & the Giants and again both teams have some really good pitchers to throw at each other. I'm looking forward to another good series, although I'd be surprised if they repeated their last 2 performances. This coming back from 3 games down can't be the norm or can it? I'll post the outcome of the series upon it's completion. Until then have a good one guys.

I can hardly wait!  Smokey Joe vs...Jeff Tesreau???

McGraw had Matty (23 wins, 2.12) and Marquard (26 wins, 2.57), however, he led with Tesreau (17 wins, but a 1.96 ERA), even though they won the pennant by a big enough margin to drive a truck through (10 games!), and could have set up his rotation any way he wanted to.

How will you play it...?

seajaw,

When it comes to the pitching match ups I use the same format that the managers did for the series. I don't always agree with some of their decisions but this is a replay of all the WS so this is why I hold true to these match ups. Some have worked and some have not. I do use the same line ups however I may change some of the players batting positions in the line up. But thats about all the changes that I will perform.

Hi Guys,

Well here is the 1912 World Series update between the Boston Red Sox vs New York Giants. The winner in 5 games is the Boston Red Sox 4 games to 1. This was a series of great pitching by both teams there was a total of 18 runs scored in the 5 games between the 2 teams. A total of 3 shutouts including a 3 hit shutout by Smoken Joe Wood in game 4. As you will observe the Red Sox team era for the series was 0.60 & the Giants era 2.28 so again another series where pitching was in command and hitters struggled.
___________________________________________________________________________________

Game Scores:
Game #1 winner Red Sox 2-0.
Game #2 winner Giants 2-1
Game #3 winner Red Sox 3-0
Game #4 winner Red Sox 5-0 J. Wood 3 hit shutout & no walks issued. Giants commited 6 errors.
Game #5 winner Red Sox 3-2 J. Stahl was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning with the bases loaded that forced in the winning run & clinched the series for the Red Sox.

** Please note: The Red Sox pitchers only gave up 3 earn runs, 6 BB, K'd 30 batters, gave up 4 runs total, and  threw 22 innings of shutout ball from game 3 to the 3rd inning of game 5. Ended with a team Era of 0.60 with the highest era of 2.00 by R. Collins. Again these early Red Sox teams have won because of their great pitching staffs.

Well again the Red Sox show cased their great pitching staff as they pretty much shut down the Giants hitters through out this series. And again their own line up didn't set anything on fire, but they got the hits when they needed to. I believe that after playing these early Red Sox teams that they could match up against some of the greatest staffs in baseball history and they would hold their own.

The Giants were just out pitched in this series if you want to call a team Era 2.28 being out pitched. However thats exactly what happen in this series to them. Their hitters were in a coma during this entire series and the Red Sox staff pulled the life support on them. The pitchers threw well enough to win this series but the hitters never had a heart beat & their defence was like swiss cheese. If you put that all together you get beat 4 games to 1 to a better team. I feel bad for the Giants they had the pitching staff that could have won this series if only the leather & wood played up to the standards of the pitching staff.

Next up for the Monster Project is the 1919 World Series between the Cincinnati Reds vs Chicago White Sox. This should be interesting to see how this one plays out, any bets?  Does anyone know where Jimmy the Greek is?
