Finally!!!![]()
The cast is now off!!! I have my forearm wrapped in an Ace bandage, with a removeable splint.
I have a lot of strength to rebuild. The wrist is now so thin, I can almost circle it with the thumb and middle finger of my right hand.
I go back in three weeks, so they can take a look at the improvement.
seajaw,
Glad to hear that your doing better, nothing like a cast to slow you down. Give it a little more time and you'll be back good as new. A funny story this friend of mine once broke his right hand and he said when it happen he had to start rolling the dice with his left hand. The funny thing is he was playing in a league and he was 10 & 17 at the time he broke his hand, but after he started rolling with his left hand he went on a 33-8 streak. When he got his cast off he stayed rolling with his left hand and finished in 2nd place one game out of 1st in the league. Everyone was trying to get him to switch back to rolling with his right hand however without any luck of course. Best of luck to you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best thing about the downsizing of my old cast two weeks ago was finally being able to fit into my park again!![]()
During the first four weeks of my misery, the cast I had was too bulky, and I had no strength in my hand to hold the cards. I hold my cards lefty, roll and write righty.
I had to set Strat Park off the the side and lay everything flat on my table. Bleah!![]()
With the smaller cast and initial stages of healing, I was able to grasp the cards again (YES!!!). I could also use my park again.
I have little/no flexability in the wrist, as the tendons in the back of the hand really tightened up in the last six weeks. My left-hand strength is about 25-30% of my right hand, so I guess I'm down to being a "W" hitter from the left side.
Sounds like the perfect reason to inject a little more "small ball" into my games!
Always look for the silver lining.![]()
Congratulations, Seaj! Stay well!
Jim
Jeff,
Stick with the rehab plan; don't throw too many innings too early!
Ken
rezz,
I wish I could say I've been taking it easy, but far from it. After all, I had six weeks (okay, more like six months, with all the time I spend yakkin' here...) worth of yard work piled up.
The best news is that I actually finally took care of the rhody bush that I was startin' to work on when I got hurt! I've filled two large yard waste cans since I got the cast off.
Had to go do the grocery shopping today. Between all that, plus trying to keep (get) my '24 season on track has kept me busy.![]()
Nah. I've been rollin' the past four weeks, but the awkwardness of the cast made it slow going for a while.
I'm still working on getting the strength back. I still have to be careful, to not put too much strain on it.
I wear an ace bandage on it now, whenever I go out (to cushion the wrist, which is still a bit sore, from time-to-time). But that's about it.
I have a follow-up visit to the hand specialist Monday, so they can see how it's progressing.
Great t'see you're much bet'r Seaj!
Jim
Thanks, Jim.
As long as I can hold the cards and roll the dice, all is not lost.
well good luck on Monday , and we're all awaiting some great replay posts from you very soon.
Thanks, guys.
Cat Out of the Bag Dept.:
Assuming I can keep up a decent pace (translation: if these hurlers finally start getting some outs) with what I have left (I'm 36 games in), I'll start posting '24 in two weeks.
Seajaw -- looking forward to 1924. I am curious how the results will stack up to Jeff Polman's blog too where the Senators are running away with the AL. (don't give any hints, though - I want to experience it "live"). It will be an interesting comparison.
Clean bill o' health! Doc said the X-Rays looked fine and the healing process is going good. Practice makes perfect, I guess.![]()
Of course, that also means no more excuses. I gotta get back to the dice and finish things up with '24.
