Rumor has it that it will start tomorrow? Anyone hear anything different?

I haven't seen or heard anything about it. Any information would be helpful.
I know they were getting rid of individual teams 10/$5 before the new website. I took advantage of it and got 50 teams........not many good teams but a lot good years by individual players in there.

I checked the new Strat-O-Matic site today and nothing was posted regarding the 3/$25.00 annual set sale.

I just called, to get the shipping cost for a Negro League set ($8.24/$48.23 total cost).  Fortunately, I have $11 worth of credit coupons from prior purchases, to knock it down a bit.

I asked about the sale, and was told the brochures would be sent out some time in November.

Not a lot of help, as far as specifics are concerned, I know...

Seajaw

does that mean that they will be sending out brochures to their customer list informing us of the sale or I have noticed on the new site that their a brochure option they say will be coming soon.

Any guesses as to which sets they would be trying to do away with?

Sounds like it will be business as usual, with brochures going out to their customer base, and to any others who request them.

The 3/$25 sale is usually set up to reduce stock on all but the last two or three current season releases, and assorted other items.

I've never seen them put any of the prior season recreations up for sale.  Best guess would be all of the remaining stock of '88-2006 (or '07) sets.

The individual team sale they just had went from 86-2004...........I think it was 2004 anyways.
Its not that I'm really interested in any of the sets in that period, but I have a hard time staying away from a deal.
Anyways thanks for the heads up Seajaw. If you hear anything more let me know. While I get regular mailings from SOM I don't think I have ever got anything with some kind of a sale going on.

They will not offer the last two seasons of Strat-O-Matic Baseball--2007, and 2008. That means the following years would be available: 1988, 1990, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 & 2006. I heard from a reliable source that the bulk of back stock is the 1988 set with others in more realistic quantities.

Figures that they found some 2004's.sad
I ordered that as part of my 3/$25 last year.  I got a $5 credit check, and the other two sets for $20 ($10 each).

Geez, maybe I should order a 2004 and stash it in my closet :)

My brother and I both had trouble with the sale- it wouldn't give me the third season for $5 and it wouldn't give him the sale prices altogether.

The 2004 set was found by Strat-O-Matic this past February. The year before, they found cases of the 2001 set which was out of print for two years.  They put the 2001 set out just in time for the 3/$25.00 sale.

I ordered the 95,97 &2003 teams today. No problem so far. However I wanted the 2002 season rather than 2003 and it came up at its regular price.

I also made the commitment and purchased the NL set. I was going back and forth but I figure since I love the HOF set so much I would get the NL. No idea how I'm going to use them quite yet and I already have a few other projects lined up ..........but at least I'll have them and I look forward to reading how the others are using them.

Two days ago, the 1995 and 1997 sets were not on the list. I wonder what other sets they still have in inventory that they do not know about? The 1995 & 1997 sets haven't been available for over two years! Maybe they will find some 1998 and 2001 sets in their storage basement!  Who knows, maybe they will find 1962 sets also?

Yeah I was under the impression that 95 & 97 were out of print, but they were listed on the website yesterday so I grabbed them. At least I think I'm getting them. My order was confirmed.

Seems to me that the 3/$25 sales (don't get me wrong; I love 'em and have taken advantage of them myself) are eventually going to create a huge void.

There will be the past 2-3 seasons on hand, and nothing else but the recreated prior seasons, which never go on sale.

I know space is at a premium, but that just seems odd for a company that has created so much good product over the years...

Seajaw , I had the exact same thought when I learned about the 3/ $25 sale. I never realized SOM even had such a sale. I did take advantage of this sale and also the individual team sale they just had 10/ $5.
But my thought was if their intention is to get rid of all the inventory they had on hand then what is left?
My understanding of the individual team sale they had was that these teams would no longer be available after the sale. Surely they didn't sell all the teams so did they destroy what was left?
As for the sets it seems to me that they have given in to second hand sale of their product on sites such as ebay. I guess good new for those that sell their as there are now more out of print sets, but not good news for the rest of who collect and have to stay within budget. I suppose with all the work already done to create each season they could always just print out more sets some day down the road. But I don't think they want to go that route.
Now it has me thinking what do they do with those sets once the sale is over with? Seems to me that they no longer want to carry the inventory that there are people who sell SOM waiting in the wings to grab these sets cheap. Truth is right now none of these season are really must have sets.....but 10-15 years down the road that will change and those sets will be going for big money once again on the resale market. In the meantime SOM will have filled up their warehouses once again.
