Does anyone know what season the PH card #4 transitioned from 1-2 HR to 1-2 double** etc? Was it '77?
It changed?!
I play almost exclusively DH. When I do have the pitchers hitting, I bust out my trusty old bright yellow #1-#4 cards. This version was around as early as my original 1971 set. I just realized I've actually never separated or used a #1-#8 set.
csw - I too remember 1977 as the year it changed from 1-4 to 1-8. I remember going backward and re-labeling all my pitchers. I could be wrong but that's what I remember.
Thanks guys, GW '77 sounds right because the cards were white from yellow, and I think when the eratings were added that was part of the change.
Ken, I still have the yellow one's as well, in fact am still using them in my current WS replay.
I still don't understand why SOM won't include actual pitchers' hitting cards for at least the guys who batted 25 times, or so.
They card fringe players who bat much less.
Even 1-8 doesn't really do some of these guys justice.
I agree that there should be pitchers hitters card if the pitcher has a good year batting. Batted over a certain ave or hit x # of home runs or x-tra bases.
I agree, I think at least the top four starters in the rotation should get carded
Re: 1977 pitching hitting cards . CSW - it was not 1977 that they went to 1-8. I looked at my old 1977 set NL pitchers and did not find any above 4.
