Hi Guys,

Well here we are on the eve of the 2009 World Series and I just thought I'd see who you guys feel will win the series between the Yankees & Phillies. Broadway faces Board Street for me I'm not a fan of either team, and don't ever want to be. But in the past I have stuck by the AL so I guess I'll say that the Yankees will win in 6 or 7 but not rooting for either team just picking as a baseball fan. I have been a Red Sox fan since 1967 and will always be a Sox fan until my last gasp of air. However just interested in seeing who you are picking in this series. Either as a fan or just as a baseball fan in general.

grin Go 2010 Red Sox !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, as a Yankee fan since the 60's, I always routed for the red Sox in the series; just can't stand the NL. I agree with the Yanks in 6 or 7, but they better win the 1st game with CC..

As an Indians fan, I have a tough choice of rooting for CC or for Cliff Lee!  I think the difference is probably Ryan Howard.  He is starting to look like Reggie did when he got to the series.  If New York can pitch around him, they should win because they have the better bullpen in Rivera.  If Philly can score early, then they take Mo out of the game.

I'll go with the Phils but not a strong endorsement.

Both teams can hit, of course, and play in very hitter friendly parks, so the difference maker will be pitching and defense. I think the Yankees have more depth in the pitching department and the Phillies have been a little sloppy with the leather during the playoffs. That being said I like the Yankees in 6 or 7.

Gonna be close...like the Phils in 7.Think it'll feature some high scoring games.

It's not often that the Yankees are cast against the defending champs.  The Phillies are underdogs as
defending champs.

If anything, it should be high-scoring, which will excite a lot of people.  But that will also mean lots of pitching changes, and long games.  Have plenty of snacks ready.

The fact that it's all on the East Coast will also turn off half the nation, but it will mean that all of us folks out West get to bed at a decent time.wink

I'll root for Philly (obviously).  And maybe (hopefully), Ibanez has a nice Series and finally gets some decent recognition for being such a class act.  He had a rather quiet second half, but put together a nice overall season.

There were a lot of people who thought he'd flop.  It may have also surprised people that his defensive play was pretty decent.   Only two errors, and his zone coverage was better than league average.

Don't all world series games start about 8-8:30 Eastern Time, regardless of where the teams are from? Unless you mean you'll just turn it off & go to bed.

Phillies in 6.  I'm not a big east coast fan but the Phillies havs a couple of Ex-Mariners so that is why I will root for them.  Also, anybody but the Yankees.

It means that the games will start at 5:30 West Coast time, and they'll (likely) be over by 8:30-9 p.m. out here.

Back East, that would mean 11:30-midnight.  Late for the kiddies.

There are no games out West for us to be worried about staying up late.

baseball needs to wise up and play day games on the weekends at least  if u are afraid to compete with ncaa or nfl that soesnt say much about the state of the game    baseball should dictate schedule, not tv

Absolutely agree!!!!!  Why are we playing baseball - and just starting the World Series - on October 29th!!!   We have been sitting around waiting after each playoff round instead of getting on with the games!  Incredible.

Seajaw - and the Yankees used 6 pitchers.  Old school vs. new school.  Go Old school.

I think the Phils in seven, but it really is just one game....sure was a heckuva performance though....what impressed me too was how the Phils really made CC work.

They've got a heckuva lineup, so do the Yanks.

Gonna be interesting.....AJ's gotta do something or NY is behind the old 8 ball I think.

And it's  great t'see how NY honors all our heroes in service. That was really great!

grinHi Guys,

Well if the Yankees lose tonight I think there going to have a hard time recovering. CC threw a lot of pitches and he really didn't look that sharp. If they lose this series it will just prove that money doesn't always buy happiness or in this case World Championships. The Yankees look like they were sleep walking through the game. If A.J. doesn't come out and pitch a great game I think it will be a mountain that they won't be able to climb.

I would also like to throw kudos to Girardi for bringing in Rivera in the 8th to finish up (not the first time, either).  That's how your bull pen ace should be used (see Gossage, Goose).

Hi Guys,

I think that uncle Charlie raised his ugle head again last night for the Phillies. That game was there for the taking. He should have had Rollins & Vic on the move to stay away from the DP with the count full on Utley. And I know that Philly fans are going to say that Utley was safe at first, and that the umpire missed the call. However Vic should have been called out for interference on the slide at 2nd where he went after Jeter way out of the base path instead of sliding directly into the bag. See the baseball Gods have a way of balancing the scales. Well it's 1-1 lets see what happens now that the series turns back to Philly for the next 3 games. However in closing is it me or is this series just plan boring? The crowd in Yankee stadium seems like they are there for the food & drinks not the game. Make some noise people it will help you stay warm before game 7 on Christmas Eve.

Man, they sure are pitching like madmen aren't they???....and that play with Ryan!

Saw it on the TV at the diner!hahah!!

Terry Francona was on the radio a sec ago and he said he would not have sent those guys
either...ah well, that's the ol ball game I guess!hahaha!!!

Sure is a different WS thus far than I thought it'd be....where's all the runs???hahaha!!!

I know the old adage of pitching stopping bats, but none of those guys brought back thoughts of
Gibby,Sandy, Whitey,Alex,Matty,Spahnie,Walter and their like.Not t'me anyway.

They sure have been good tho'!
