I think we'll start seeing some more offense now that we're down to the #3 starters.
Starting the runners would have been a sound strategy, but not the only one. With Utley up and Howard on deck, it's your best chance in the game for a multiple run inning. If Utley strikes out and the runners successfully steal, you've got Howard coming up with first base open.
It also looks like both A-Rod and Howard are largely being pitch around, and both are trying too hard and chasing bad pitches. Whichever one of these guys decides to relax and take a few walks could give his team a significant advantage.
Jim,
Charlie is an AL manager on a NL team. He sits around and waits for the 3 run homer. You know that most NL managers would have sent them in a heart beat with a 3-2 count on the batter just to stay out of the possible DP. Thats the big discussion on 610am sports talk radio coming out of Philly. They were throwing Charlie under the bus this morning when I was driving to work. I just started laughing, because they do not stand by their team unless there winning. Make a mistake and your road kill in Philly. They do it with all their teams in Philly. They booed Mike Schmidt the greatest player they ever had. I mean think about it they have a jail cell & a court room with a judge on duty at the Eagles stadium for all their home games. Well will see what happens as this series moves along. God help poor old Charlie if they lose this series. So lets just sit back and watch the fun begin now that their in Philly.

I really believe the two best teams are there and I know there are a lot of Yankee haters out there but I also think our good friend delsea2 would admit the Yankees of the 90's and 2000s just went out and played hard without the hot-doggin'.
Either team deserves it, that being said I would like to see the Phils repeat but I know that Red Sox nation has a dilemma. They root for the Phils and then if the Phils repeat you have two teams with two rings in the decade but if the dreaded Yanks win guess who is franchise of the decade?
cwsfn,
One thing that I have always respected from any team is when they just go out and play and leave the hot doggin to the hot dog man in the stands. I use to tell my son when he was playing " just play the game you don't have to say a word or show boat to prove to anyone how good you are,the fans watching you play will do that for you". However when it comes to sharing 2 WS in the decade with the Phillies thats fine with me. You know the other day at work one of our local Philly fans stated that they are the best team between us & them. However I pulled up MLB and showed him the match-ups that we have had with the Phillies since 2004 to now. And when he saw how many times we have spanked them over that period he shut up. I said to him welcome to baseball 101 when you come to class next time bring the teacher an apple. We all had a good laugh. And as he was departing the group he said well at least you haven't beaten us in a series yet. So I said look up the WS for 1915 and will talk some more later, now go and get my apple I'm hungry.

The local paper's Series headline talked about how the Yankee bats woke up.
Two solo homers and one run that they actually manufacured. I'd hardly calll that waking up, except in comparision to what they did against Lee in the opener.
If that's the extent of the Yankee bats waking up in this Series, Philly makes it two straight Series Championships.
We'll see if they do any better against Hamels. Pettitte will likely be tough, but the Yanks better be able to come with more than three runs against Hamels.
seajaw,
Your right if thats waking up then I should be hitting 4th in the Yankees line-up on Saturday. There is another thing that was sleeping also, it was me. I like pitching duals but there just seems to be something missing in this series. Without some more jams for the pitchers to work out of or for the hitters to step up and get a big hit, it's making me yawn about every inning. Like I stated earlier the fans in Yankee stadium look as if they would rather be at a horse shoe tournament instead of cheering their team on. For a city that never sleeps maybe their overly tired from being bored with the first 2 games. All that money and very few hits, I know that when they come to Philly it's going to be a zoo. So will just have to see how this series plays out thats of course if we can all just keep our eyes open long enough to stop yawning. Sorry but I haven't seen very much that excites me about this one. Even the dogs were trying to change the channel on my remote, those little buggers. Don't they see I'm trying to sleep? Maybe when next seasons cards & disc come out someone will have a better replay to post without the yawns.

Oh man, do I know about 610!!hahaha!!!....Don't even listen in anymore since I bought SIRIUS, thank heaven!!hahaha!!!
They wanted Charlie out a few years ago too!!hahaha!!!
Then they won the WS!!haaha!!!
Sure wish SIRIUS would offer the baseball games like the XM side since they merged but
they haven't yet.I'd sign up right away since I like to listen while playing SOM.
Speakin' of other stations, WBZ comes in at night, and I once won a tee shirt when I recognized
the voice of the late, great Max Baer Sr.!hahaha!!!

delsea - I don't think anything in the games is mssing. I think its the LOOOOONG comercials. It just breaks up the rythym of the game so much that I finally get bored and just go to bed. Thursday's game was really a great game - close with super pitching - but I just could not stand it anymore. The networks have to throw in their hypes for their lousy shows and just eat away from the real show in front of us.
They really are over the top with the commercials. Unfortunately, it's the same with the Super Bowl.
Those championship games are also their biggest advertising opportunities, so they use them as "springboards" for announcing their program lineup. And we get the ridiculous crowd shots of Fox-TV stars at the big game. I think that's the worst part.
That, and the %^$@!%^@^%! in-show animated promos at the bottom of the screen. Those really **** me off!
I'm looking forward to seeing how the Phils play in front of their home crowd. They did very well in NY.
Interesting that Manuel has already announced that Blanton will start Game Four. No 1-4-7 for Cliff Lee. You think Girardi will hold C.C. for Game Five?
Can he afford to?
seajaw,
I have a strange feeling that the Phillies have C.C. number. They beat him last year and so far handled him in game 1 of this series. If you looked at his eyes when he was on the mound for game one he looked as if he was more then a litttle worried. They just stood there and waited him out at the plate. When he was going into deep count after deep count the Phils just waited for their pitches and he gave them up. However I believe that the Yankees have a chance to win the next 2 games. Hamels has struggled & Blanton doesn't impress me that much. If the Yankees bats are really going to come to life these are the 2 games that they need to turn it up. You know that they will face Lee again but if they win these next two they have a chance to return to NY and win it all, and not have to worry about seeing Lee. That being said it's going to be hard for the Yankees unless they can take the Philly crowd out of it early while their in Philly. Maybe if they play tonight I'll get to see something that interests me. Sorry NY & Philly fans but as long as I've been around the game and as much as I love it. These first 2 games have been yawners. Maybe that will change now that their at the Bank?

Okay. Now they're awake.![]()
Another great McCarverism: When he was doing a promo for Sunday's football action on Fox, McCarver tossed in the reminder to set your clocks back, so you won't be late for the game.
They fin'ly put some lumber t'the leather t'nite didn't they!...I think you're right Del! They seem t'know how t'beat CC...I think if they don't tho' it may be KO's ville. Good series!
Jim
CC vs. the Phillies #4 starter? I think the Yankees couldn't get a more favorable match-up. Not lookin' so good for the City of Brotherly Love . . . And were the fans booin' Hamels when he came out?
I can already hear Larry warmin' up his victory dance.
rezzdogg,
The Yankees realize that if they win tonight all the heat is on the Phillies. Besides win tonight and they will most likely only see Lee one more time. Otherwise if they lose tonight chances are 1 will most likely turn into 2 . The left handed batters for the Phillies have been pretty much shut down so far. Ryan Howard is showing that he is a classic power hitter, it's all or nothing. And right now it's nothing except a lot of K's. I believe that uncle Charlie might be making a very big mistake going with Blanton tonight. Most managers would be coming back with Lee in game four. It's a big chance that he is taking and if it turns out to be right then no bad. However going down 3 games to 1 instead of tied 2-2 could be the kiss of death for the Phillies if this move back fires. I had 610am sports talk radio on out of Philly for a while after the game last night. And of course the so called loyal fans of Philly have already fired up the bus that they like to use to throw their manager & players under. I don't get it why would you wear your Phillies tee shirts & jersey's before the game and then dog the same members of the team that your suppose to be supporting, win or lose. Sorry that doesn't sound like loyality to me. But then again thats Philly, I just shake my head and smile.

who would u say are HOF on current Yanks? Jeter a lock, as is Mariano. How about Arod, Posada? Pettite?
Great shot LK!!!...Hi Bob!!!...Riv'n Jete f'sure....A-Rod woulda been a FBHOF guy but I think the 'roid thing'll delay that..same for AP....Posada's a yes from here.
BTW- I still think the Phils have a shot too, not too much of one, but a shot..... Cliff wins'n anything can happen. It's been a closer series I think than 3-1.....really amazed here by the bats bein' shutdown of so many of the stars on both teams...It's a really good series I think.
Good topic!
Jim
Seems like a wider strike zone (both ways, no preference for either team). I've noticed that before in the WS.
