Why stop with this set?

How many years will it take to convince our favorite game company to come up with a set dedicated to the great players from the Mexican League?  Unlike the NL, the Mexican League has continued to thrive.  Last year I picked up a book on the history of the league and it contains player and pitcher registers from 1937-2001.  I was fortunate enough to see a few of their star players right here in Chicago with Cy Acosta, Francisco Barrios, Salome Barojas, Ernesto Escarrega and many more.

There are also many more players who thrived in the league but do not receive much press here (Hector Espino who I believe still is their all-time homerun king, Alfred Pinkston, Renee Gonzalez etc).

I know this post could also fall in the Ball Four Media Center (The Mexican League, LA Liga Mexicana) but the purpose of this thread is to hear if any of you would have interest in a set like this.

It would be cool, no doubt.  How about a Cuban set?  Or a Japanese League (I believe Gary's site has a few of those teams).

However, I don't wanna be Barkan's line of fire, if he catches wind of this...grin
Imagine trying to track down (and translate) all of those box scores...

I agree on the Cuban and Japanese leagues as well although I bet getting any information that is valid out of Cuba would be more difficult.  Imagine a HOF type card for Sadaharu Oh?

Hi Guys,

Ok I'll throw my hat in on this one. Why not put out the all-american girls professional baseball league set.
Just think of the gender match-ups for the title of who's better the men or the women? Maybe it's a new way to bring the women into our Strat world. Imagine sitting across the table from your wife, girlfriend, daughter, sister, mom, or grand mom? Now that would be different for most of us if not all of us. Yes men lets put our pride aside and play the ladies. Do you think our ego's could take the hit if we lost to the females in our lives? I think it would be fun to give it a try. Oh my goodness imagine the postings for those games. Oh well I wonder how many of us out there would ask Strat to put that set out. I for one as a true baseball fan think it deserves to be on the market. Whats your thoughts on this one?

grinwink

Gary has some of this stuff in his site's homebrewed cards, including the 1964 Japanese Central League season.

He also has some choice stuff from Fred Bobberts, including the 1930 Negro National League season, the 1992 Japanese season and some old PCL/AA/IL seasons.

Hi Guys,

If you have stopped laughing by now at my last posting then how about some all time college baseball team sets. We could set up our own tournaments without the NCAA. How neat would it be to have some of todays MLB stars when they were playing in college? I love watching the college world series each year how about you guys? Maybe it's time that Strat reached out into other areas of baseball. With their new site and image what a better way to reach out to all baseball fans. I say bring it on Strat complete our baseball dreams with expanding out beyond MLB. I knew when I saw this post that my baseball brain would kick in with all these different suggestions. Oh well I better put it away for awhile or I'll be asking for the Williamsport set. Have a good night guys.

Pick a (Mexican League) season.
Tell me why.
One of my favorite possible years is 1968 because Aurelio Lopez of the (1984) Tigers won 19 games for the Mexico City Reds.

I have V14 versions Len translated for Japan's 1964 CL, 1967 CL + the Braves, 1976 CL, and 1992 CL and PL, and the 1930 NeNL is there.

Jim,

I agree loved the movie and I would love to see a set for the womens league put out. Thats the great thing about Strat the dice doesn't need muscles to provide and outcome. I bet that there were alot of us out there that most likely didn't even know about the womens league until the movie came out? So I say Strat should give the ladies their dues, the HOF did. Do you guys think that the ladies who would want to play against us would ask for designer dice?

Hi John!

You know, you're right! I never heard of the league b4 the movie!
There was a lady from the town I come from (Haskell,NJ).

The local paper did a whole story on her.

She played from 1944-1952.

Her name's Ernestine Petras, and, she was a tech adviser on the movie
I believe.

All those years, and, I wonder how many folks in the little town of 10k
ever knew there was a big leaguer hailing from there!

I forgot to add that Gary had some AAGPBL info on his web page.  I don't know if there is a season set up for play.

I got them at a card show in Philly, back in the early 1990's.  The ladies were all there, signing and chatting.

Ummm....the HOF set, which is on a par with the Negro League set, has still not sold out the 5,500 sets they printed.     I can't imagine them undertaking any major new project after the time and effort put into the Negro League set.     By the way, I wonder how those are selling?

I think the HOF set that  came out was too expensive and since the previous old-timer sets were released years ago it also took away from that majesty.

Most of us did not get to see many of the players in the original old-timer sets which was more compelling and is probably why I am interested in the NL set and in a Mexican League set.

Since I grew up watching Rose, Seaver, Brett and the like, having HOF cards for them was not as exciting for me because I would get a new card every year anyway.

Although I did buy the set because I buy all the sets for the collection I can see why most people did not buy it.  The Release of the Negro League set has spurred more interest on my part with the 2000 HOF set because they are similarly produced.

I too will be interested to see how this set sells.
