Phils and Rays are my teams of immediate interest. Rays have already traded Aki to Pirates, and are rumoured to want Milton Bradley from Cubs ij exchange for Pat Burrell. Also, with Vlad as a free agent, and his having familiarity with Joe Maddon, possibly he comes to Tampa. Phils will part ways with Matt Stairs and Brett Myers. But what to do with Cole Hamels and Brad Lidge? Also, are we upgrading third base?  Lotsof questions. How bout you and your favorite team?

Unfortunately, I am an Indians fan and 2010 looks grim.  We may be okay on offense if Grady Sizemore is healthy again and a miracle could happen and Travis Hafner comes back (don;t bet on it, though).  Laporta looks like he could develop and Cabrera is a real player at short.  Catcher is up for grabs and Peralta is stuck at 3rd since I don;t expect Marte to make it.  Biggest problem for the Tribe is pitching.  We have none!  It's all over at Philly and New York and Colorado and Minnesota!    It's a terrible state.  I've been an Indians fan since 1974 and Gaylord the Great but I have not had such low expectations since the dog days of the early 80's.

Our beloved TRIBE and our Phitin's are my two teams,,,, GW has already got it covered as far as the TRIBE is concerned..righton G!...man, we need wings!..over in the NL,after such a valiant effort against a great team, the Phils are gonna be in the mix for some time!Love Uncle Charlie here!
Ruben too, the whole deal. If Cool comes back, that's a big plus...the offense is set. Man, what a hurler Lee is...they better givvim what he wants! The NYY didn't have an answer for the lefty!
He was great!Ice water all the way!

Phils mai questions are at third base, where they may seek more offensive production. Also, there bullpen will need tweaking. I expect Eyre to retire, and Myers may be shown the door. Lidge will be back, but possibly as a set-up man. I think Chan Ho will stick around, ands Romero looks to be their lefty mid relief guy. We could use a back-up catcher. Ironically, Molina from NYY may be the guy. As for the Tribe, what could have been. Up three to win over the Sox in 07, one win from Series, and it blows up. Manager gone, top two hurlers gone, injuries, and disarray. Makes you appreciate how fragile success is.

Just heard my Pale Hose gave up on Chris Goetz and Josh Fields for Mark Teahen.  Not sure that is the right move but typically Kenny Williams is pretty accurate in his assessments when making deals.

Rumor has it my A's have about 25 million to spend this year. They probably won't and I'm fine with that . I'd like to see the young guys play the year and go from there. I really liked how they played after dumping Orlando Cabrera, Giambi and Holliday. They did alot of running and the pitching staff has some nice young arms. After a bunch of injuries to the pitchers they used a six man rotation for the final month or so of the season. They played really well until the very last week when they seemed to shut it down.
Eventually they'll need to add some power to the lineup. Would be nice to get Chavez off the books there and Cust could go too.
The Angels have some serious free agent issues to address so the division could be wide open for any of the teams there. I don't Oakland competing in 2010 but I have a lot of hope for 2011.

Hi Guys,

Looking for the Red Sox to go and get another big bat or 2 & a starting pitcher. Thats my Christmas list for this year not sure Theo is thinking along those lines. However that being said I believe with the young players down on the farm and the ones already with the big team will help to secure the Sox future for being in the race for years to come. The shortstop position is one of the glaring spots and another big bat would really help. The AL east is one of the best divisions in baseball if not the best. I had this discussion with a friend at work who was bragging about the Phillies. I said to him put them in the AL east this season and their in 3rd place behind the Red Sox & Yankees and would not have made the playoffs based on their record. I told him that would love to have to play the Nationals, Pirates, etc 18 times or less a season. Please this is no smack against those teams fans just the teams talent levels. So yes I can't wait for 2010 to start.

grin GO 2010 RED SOX !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we do speak the same language; Baltimore was 34 games under .500.  22 of those were against just the Yanks & Red Sox. So they were only 12 games under against the rest of the league. If they got to play in the NL East, how do they not finish .500 with the Mets & Nationals. They were 11-7 in interleague play.

would love to see realignment and allow Phils/Yanks Phils/O's Phils/Sox  I am a Ray fan as well and our record before the last month was good for only third in AL East, while it would have been first in two of three NL divisions. Of course what holds that up is the commish, the DH, and stingy owners

Seajaw, Phils thinkin bout Beltre. Your thoughts.....

I want Beltre to stay here.  He's a gamer, and has the best arm of any third baseman I've ever seen.

My two favorite teams are the hometown Pirates and the BoSox.     The Pirates have gotten so bad it's hard to think they won't lose 100 games.     I'm waiting to see if Boston keeps Bay or gets Hallday before passing judgement.     They have a good nucleus but will need to improve to keep getting the Wild Card..

Shouldn't the Phils only be thinking about pitching? They already have the best offense in the NL and a gold-glove guy at 3rd. Outside of Cliff Lee, they have Happ & Blanton and hope Hamels comes back to his old self, but they could sure use another starter. As far as relief... we all know what they need.

I am not familiar with the contract status of Lowell or Big Papi but I don't think that either is a free agent.    If they got a good first baseman they could move Youklis to third, making Lowell a platoon player at best.    Big Papi is so popular they have to give him another year, perhaps lower in the lineup.     And they are desperate for a catcher-without a new one I don't even see them as a Wild Card team

How is Beltre doing?     I heard he had a rather unusual injury that required off season care.     It will be hard for them in Strat if outscored but, with that defense, you never know.     I know they have had some poor seasons in the past several years but they seem to care, unlike the Pirates.     And they have Ichiro and have kept him which gives the team some continuity.

the M's are thinkin Matsui and possibly Mora   Beltre may be too costly for them   we will see

If the Phils make a hard push for Beltre, I'd be willing to go after Feliz's glove, as a poor man's trade-off.

Matsui can't play left, so he'd just be a DH, and force Branyan (and his bad back) to stay at first.

I didn't follow the Birds, so I can't say what was wrong with Mora this season.  But his righthanded Camden power may not translate well to the Safe (his home runs are all to left/center).

He also has a .329 career average in 168 ABs at Safeco Field (only four HR's, though), so there may be possibilities.

Another problem (which may have contributed to his poor 2009 numbers) is the fact that he'll be 38 years olf by the time Spring Training rolls around.

Another roll of the dice(y) there.

Getting back to the Phils for a moment, any chance they take a chance on reviving J.J. Putz?
