Vern Ruhle does a nice job, Jason Thompson and John Wockenfuss hit two run homers and John Hiller slams the door in the final innings, as the Tigers take the series from the A's with a 6-3 win.

The Tigers eek out a 7-6 win over the Angels. Terry Humphrey belts a solo homer and two doubles for the Halos. Rusty Staub hits a solo homer and Ben Oglivie hits a pair of homers, a solo and a two run shot for the Tigers.

Nolan Ryan allows just two hits, along with five walks and eight strikeouts, as the Angels beat the Tigers, 4-1. Detroit gets a run in the 9th to spoil the shutout.

The Angels score four, 1st innings runs and cruise to a 5-0 win. The Tigers are helpless against the left hand slants of Frank Tanana, who strikes out eight in the complete game, shutout.

California: Tanana and Etchebarren

Attendance: 32,951

The Tigers are back home and host the Brewers for the weekend. Mark Fidrych gets the start and he isn't sharp, as the Brewers score single runs in each of the first three innings. Willie Horton belts a two run homer in the 1st inning for Detroit and Rusty Staub's RBI single in the 5th ties the game. The game stays that way into the 10th inning. Ben Oglivie hits a pinch hit double with one out in the bottom of the 10th. Staub then follows with a walk off double, as Fidrych hangs on to go the distance.

Milwaukee: 3-11-0
Detroit: 4-11-2

Milwaukee: Augustine, Castro (9) and Porter

Detroit: Fidrych and Kimm

Nice work in extra innings. The Bird was a complete game machine. Four of his 24 complete games were 11 innings, and one was 10. 


You are remarkably on pace with him at 15-6.
